Bringing Care Beyond the Hospital & Supporting Families Through Meaningful Experiences

Superhero Kids hosts and supports a variety of events and programs designed to bring connection, joy, and meaningful support to children and families navigating pediatric cancer and blood disorders.

Our events extend care beyond the hospital walls. From community celebrations to peer support programs, each event is designed to improve quality of life, foster connection, and remind families that they are supported every step of the way.

Annual CBCC Holiday Event

Each year, Superhero Kids brings together approximately 800 patients and families for an unforgettable holiday celebration. This event provides children and families the opportunity to step away from the hospital environment and enjoy a joyful evening surrounded by familiar faces from the Children’s Blood and Cancer Center community.

Families are treated to dinner, dancing, gifts for each child, photos with Santa, carriage rides, face painting, and seasonal art activities. The evening is designed to create lasting memories while celebrating resilience, togetherness, and hope during the holiday season.

This cherished tradition would not be possible without the generosity of our donors, volunteers, and community partners who come together to support our Superhero families.

College Scholarship Program

Each year, Superhero Kids awards college scholarships to graduating senior patients who plan to pursue higher education. Scholarships are awarded based on demonstrated financial need and family circumstances, as expressed through a 500-word essay application.

Recipients are honored alongside their families at a special luncheon. This program celebrates resilience, determination, and the courage it takes to plan for the future after facing serious illness.

Through these scholarships, Superhero Kids is proud to support our Superhero Kids as they take their next steps beyond treatment and into adulthood.

Survivor Challenge Program

The Survivor Challenge Program reintroduces physical activity in a safe, encouraging, and age-appropriate way for children and teens who have become inactive due to cancer treatment or recovery.

This eight-week program incorporates a RunTex training curriculum and invites both patients and their families to participate together. The program culminates in the children proudly completing a local 5K race, celebrating strength, progress, and perseverance.

Survivor Challenge is about more than running — it is about rebuilding confidence, reclaiming movement, and empowering kids to feel strong in their bodies again.

Fundraising Events: Team Superhero Kids

Superhero Kids invites individuals and corporate teams to participate in fundraising events such as the Austin Marathon, Half Marathon, and Paramount 5K.

Participants train together, raise funds, and run in support of children battling cancer and blood disorders. Whether joining the Superhero Kids team or forming a corporate team, participants are supported every step of the way — from training resources to fundraising incentives.

These events not only raise critical funds but also build a strong community of advocates committed to making a difference.

The Hungry Bunch Teen Program

The Hungry Bunch is an informal teen support group designed for patients diagnosed with cancer or chronic blood disorders. Through monthly outings and events, the program creates opportunities for teens to connect, socialize, and build friendships with peers who share similar experiences.

Events are designed to be fun, inclusive, and age-appropriate, allowing teens to step away from medical settings and simply enjoy being together. Many participants find comfort in knowing they are not alone and benefit greatly from the support of peers who truly understand their journey.

The Hungry Bunch plays a vital role in supporting emotional well-being and fostering community among teen patients.

Rocky Ridge Teen Summer Camp

Superhero Kids funds Camp Rocky Ridge each summer for approximately thirty teen patients and dedicated staff members. This weekend camp creates a supportive environment where teens can connect with others who understand the unique challenges of living with cancer or blood disorders.

Camp activities include outdoor adventures, group challenges, and shared experiences that encourage connection, confidence, and fun. Teens have the opportunity to discuss their journeys, share coping strategies, and build friendships in a space where they feel understood and accepted.

For many participants, Camp Rocky Ridge becomes a transformative experience — offering a sense of normalcy, belonging, and joy beyond treatment.
